Everyone that has interested him or herself for Martial Arts or Asian filosophy most likely came across the concept of Yin and Yang.
The biggest misconceptions and therefore misinterpretations occur with the definition (if definition is possible to extend) of Yin and Yang.
Many refer to Yang as masculin and Yin as feminin, or Yang as full and Yin as empty. Please try to understand that as Tao (the mother of all things and the division into Yin and Yang), these two are in separatable. How this works, we will explain later, but important is, that Yang is never full and Yin never empty. Also a man would not live long if only being Yang and a woman visa versa.
So...what is it?
Best described would be, after noting that we should normally speak of the attribute Yang as 'More Yang' or 'Less Yang' and for Yin as 'More Yin' or 'Less Yin', that Yin is the state of an item, energy or concept when building up, becoming at ease, filling up, collecting. Yang would be the state of an item, energy or concept that is in change, moving, dispersing.
As you will know, Tao is symbolized (in simplest form) as a circle divided into two flowing parts, each going from thin to big, at the biggest point a dot is visible. This dot is actually an indication that at this point there is so much of one, that it automatically generates the other.
